About Better Hamilton

Better Hamilton is a non-partisan volunteer group of long-term Hamilton residents who are concerned about the city's direction.

What We Do

We advocate for fiscal responsibility, highlighting the city’s rapidly escalating rates and debt. Rates are projected to double over the next four years. These increases are placing a huge burden on ratepayers and local businesses.

We call for greater transparency and accountability in council decisions and spending. Currently, there are too many projects that lack clear financial information or any detailed cost-benefit analysis. It is impossible to determine value without knowing the costs.

We believe in innovative, community-driven solutions to ensure Hamilton remains affordable. Right now, too many people are struggling to pay for food. Under the current council plan, families, single parent homes, and pensioners (both homeowners and renters), will not be able to afford to live in Hamilton. Businesses are also struggling under the additional rates burden and the loss of customers due to the escalating costs of living. Some are leaving Hamilton.

Things must change. To achieve this, we need people around the Council table with the values, skills and expertise to provide real solutions. We need Councillors who will listen to You - the people they are supposed to represent. The Council elections are coming up this October - and you can vote for change.
